While the blues may sometimes seem like a boy’s club, women are also a powerful force within the genre. Guitar goddess Debbie Bond could be considered one of the blues’ most notable performers. She has spent 30 years “paying her dues in the Alabama backwoods.” She’s toured extensively around the globe, and backed late blues artists Eddie Kirkland, Jerry “Boogie” McCain and Willie King.
Bond is also known for founding the Alabama Blues Project, which works to “promote and preserve Alabama blues.” As a singer, songwriter and guitarist, Bond is a triple threat. With her band the TruDats, she’s an electrifying stage presence.
