Mobile police say a female hostage has been released unharmed from a home on Fairway Drive in Midtown, where officers have been in a standoff with a shooting suspect since 2 p.m. Sunday.
According to police, a report of “one person shot” was received by officials just before 2 p.m. Once on scene, officers claim they were shot at by a male suspect. The shooter then barricaded himself in another house and took a female hostage inside, who was later released unharmed.
During the incident several streets in the area were blocked off, but they have since reopened.
Around 6:30 p.m., police reported the gunman had died from an apparent suicide. However the manner of death is not yet clear, although initial reports suggested there were no visible gunshot wounds.
The MPD has not released the name of the suspect. More details will be released as soon as they are made available.
