The Brickyard will fill with the jazz-infused jams of percussionist supreme Mike Dillon this Friday. Dillon has been touted as a “punk rock provocateur,” “jazz vibraphone visionary” and “percussion virtuoso.” His sheer zeal for percussive instruments can be seen in his energetic stage presence and flawless improvisational skills.
Dillon spent a good part of last year playing in the Fungi Ensemble on the “Primus & the Chocolate Factory” tour. He’s also worked with Les Claypool (Primus) on his solo efforts as well as with Ani DiFranco and Garage A Trois.
Dillon will entertain the LoDa crowd with cuts from his 2014 release, “Band of Outsiders.” Dillon calls the album a mélange of Latin and punk, and cites writers ranging from Kurt Vonnegut to William Burroughs as his lyrical inspirations. All in all, this album succeeds in creating a fresh, modern jazz sound for the new age.
