We have gorged on Cajun fare and chili the last couple of weekends in various cook-offs. Now, this weekend the kids and “kids at heart” will get their favorite as the Mobtown Mac ‘n Cheese Fest takes over Cathedral Square on Saturday.
Boozie is easy, just whip up a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese for me. It’s the cheesiest! I mean, quite honestly, the spies and I don’t really care much about the food at any of these cook-offs — we just like an excuse for day drinking. Shocking, I know!
But before we can get to Mac-in, we need to review the latest happenings, so let’s get to it!
Holy shiplap!
Faster than you can say, “Are you ready to see your Fixer Upper?” HGTV star Chip Gaines breezed through Fairhope last weekend and apparently made a stop at local restaurant Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek Marina. He even signed their wall of fame, which has to be getting pretty full at this point. Just a few weeks ago, Dakota Johnson made an appearance and signed her Jane Hancock too. It doesn’t appear Joanna was in tow and no word on why Mr. Gaines was in town, but we suspect shiplap is involved.
A new sorority house in the OGD?
Neighbors in the Oakleigh Garden District got some rather strange news this past Monday. It seems their neighbors posted on a community page that they were selling their house to a sorority at a local college. The house looked very much like this may, in fact, be the case, because it had a bed sheet hanging on the front porch that was spray-painted with the words, “Greek Week! It’s Happening!” in bright pink letters.
Before the neighborhood got too riled up with questions about zoning, they realized the homeowners were just joking. Their house was being used in the latest film being shot here. And when that happens on April Fool’s Day, well you just gotta take advantage.
Well done! Well done!
And the winner is …
As we mentioned, the 30th annual American Cancer Society Chili Cook-off was held in Mardi Gras Park last Saturday. It was very well attended and we hear there were many, many tasty chilis to sample, but there can only be one overall winner and that was Harbor Communications. Yay Harbor! Go on with your badass chili-cookin’ selves!
But here are the other division winners: All-Meat Chili: Pilot; Meat & Beans Chili: Harbor Communication; Vegetarian Chili/Poultry/other: Airbus Peace Love & Chili; Wild Game Chili: Fausak Tires & Service.
Congrats to all of the winners and to the American Cancer Society and organizers for another uber-successful event for such a deserving cause!
The big dance
Sure, we all know the Auburn basketball team has made it to The Final Four and given our state something to be really proud of, but did you know Callaghan’s Irish Social Club has already made it to the National Championship in Garden & Gun magazine’s annual March Madness for the “South’s Best Bar.” Callaghan’s took down some pretty impressive competition, including another local favorite, the Flora-Bama, and is now facing some bar in Raleigh, North Carolina, called Player’s Retreat, in the final round. We are sure that place sucks, so just go vote for Callaghan’s. You have until midnight on Thursday, April 4, so get to it.
Well kids, that’s all I got this week. Just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous, or some plain ol’ April Fool’s Day lovin’, I will be there! Ciao!
