Another Greater Gulf State Fair will soon dim the lights and load up the rides. Before this beloved local event closes its gates, one of Nashville’s hottest pop country outfits will be performing on The Grandstand. LANCO has been celebrating the success of its debut album “Hallelujah Nights.” This introductory collection of tracks features a mix of country, pop and indie rock that country fans around the world have embraced. Drummer/co-songwriter Tripp Howell says that even though the sound of the band may mingle genres, the message and spirit of country music cannot be denied.
“Musically, country music has always changed and evolved, but it’s never allowed a song to forget about where people come from,” Howell said. “That’s the beauty in country music. We’re five guys all in our late 20s. When we write songs, they’re country songs. That’s all we know how to write. With our sound, we love classic rock and alternative rock and country music. We love all these different things.”
LANCO fans at the Greater Gulf State Fair will get a taste of the band’s upcoming sophomore effort. In the meantime, the group has given the public a preview through single releases such as “Old Camaro” and “What I See.” As far as what to expect from this new album, Howell says it will be a more “refined” version of LANCO’s sound.
“We’re going through life and singing what a 30-year-old would sing,” Howell said. “It’s a matter of honesty, and we wanted to be honest and put out what we like and what we want to sound like.”
