Hungry Owl at the corner of Cottage Hill and Schillinger is getting in on the Father’s Day promotion. Dads visiting the West Mobile location will be treated to their first beer on the house with order of an entrée.
Sunday brunch at the Owl is man-sized to say the least, with some of the city’s most decadent food along with usual fare and a kids’ menu. The outdoor growler bar is a favorite on sunny days, as are the dog walk and kiddie attractions. Live music by Fat Man Squeeze from noon to 3 p.m. will help ensure dad will want at least a second libation after his free beer. Take care of the man.
Get the pork rinds. Get the hushpuppies with dip. But when it comes to entrees, do not neglect the oysters. However, be forewarned: If the menu says it’s spicy hot, believe it.
Start your Father’s Day right at 7899 Cottage Hill Road. Call 251-340-2522 for more information. Hours of operation for Father’s Day (and any Sunday) are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Feed the Dad Bod at Zea’s
Mother’s Day is full of restaurant specials and emergency fallback brunches. It’s refreshing to see some of our establishments with special offerings for the dads. One such offering is Zea’s Rotisserie and Grill with its 2016 “Feed the Dad Bod” Father’s Day promotion.
The latest offer from 4671-A Airport Blvd.’s “casual-polished” restaurant is a $10 gift card for future visits free to dads dining in this Sunday, June 19.
“Zea is excited to give a little something extra to the man of the house during this celebratory weekend,” Nancy Jeansonne, Zea’s director of marketing, said. “This small gesture on our end means another fun Zea outing for dad and his gang, and we look forward to seeing these families again and again.”
The only requirements to receive the gift card are that you must dine in and have a minimum of two entrees. Reservations can be made for parties of seven or more by contacting Zea at 251-344-7414. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Last chance for “Juleps in June”
It’s a Southern social under the stars this Thursday, June 16, at Harper Smith Studios, downtown at 662 Springhill Ave. “Juleps in June” is a fundraiser benefiting Camp Jacob, an annual retreat offered to the residents of St. Vincent’s Center for Handicapped Children in Port au Prince, Haiti. Learn more about this nonprofit at www.jacobscolorlink.org, and show your support by attending this event.
It’s an evening of amazing food, fine libations and an outpouring of support. Ticket prices are $30 and include one free drink. Come hungry and expect Gulf shrimp among other fancy treats mixed with my favorite drinks in the heart of downtown. Food is provided with admission and a cash bar will be available.
