Saturday night at SouthSounds will be a chance to get a pure dose of jazz-infused funk and soul at The Blind Mule, courtesy of IndYah Rashaud & Concentrated Funk. Rashaud and her crew deliver smooth, seductive sounds from the same school as Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. This band thrives in such an intimate setting, which is just fine by Rashaud.
“We like being able to interact with the audience,” Rashaud said. “We have a following who know some of my original songs. So, it’s easy for us to interact with people who are constantly there supporting us. We get to ‘push’ the audience and get closer to them.”
The Mule’s crowd will get to sample original cuts such as “Butterfly Doors,” the single that brought Concentrated Funk to life. Otherwise, Rashaud and her band plan to spread “good vibes” to all in their audience. Following the festival, Rashaud says the band will concentrate on expanding beyond the Azalea City for a tour down the coast.
