USS MOBILE COMPLETES TRIALS
Mobile-headquartered Austal USA announced last week that the future USS Mobile (LCS 26) successfully completed acceptance trials in the Gulf of Mexico in September.
LCS 26 is the third Austal-built ship to roll off the assembly line this year to complete this highlight for the U.S. Navy.
“I am proud of how the Austal team has come together again, in the middle of this pandemic, only a week after a Cat 2 hurricane made landfall in our backyard, completing another major milestone for one of our Navy ships,” Austal USA President Craig Perciavalle said.
Acceptance trials involve the execution of comprehensive tests by the Austal USA-led industry team while underway in the Gulf, which demonstrate to the Navy the successful operation of the ship’s major systems and equipment. This is the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship.
Currently, the littoral combat ship program is at full-rate production at the Austal USA shipyard with four additional LCS vessels under various stages of construction, not counting the Port City’s namesake.
The future USS Savannah (LCS 28) has launched and is preparing for trials. Final assembly is underway on the future USS Canberra (LCS 30) and USS Santa Barbara (LCS 32). Modules for the future USS Augusta (LCS 34) are also under construction in the module manufacturing facility.
JJPR WINS U.S. CHAMBER AWARD
In an update, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced last week that Daphne-headquartered JJPR Agency was the national winner of the Woman-Owned Business Achievement Award during its annual Dream Big Awards ceremony.
The awards, presented by Chase for Business with support from MetLife, celebrate the achievements of small businesses and honor their contributions to America’s economic growth.
The Woman-Owned Business Achievement accolade acknowledges the success of one small business nationwide, recognizing a woman-owned company that has attained outstanding business achievement in the country.
JJPR was the only Alabama business nominated for a Dream Big Award and faced competition from two other firms based out of vastly larger metro markets.
“We are so honored to be recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as the recipients of the Dream Big Woman-Owned Business Achievement Award,” Jennifer Jenkins, founder and president of JJPR, said. “I founded JJPR 10 years ago on a foundation of not having to choose between a family or a career. Ten years later, this still holds true. Our team of all women is inspiring to work alongside every day.”
The Dream Big Awards program recognizes excellence in eight categories. This year’s winners were selected from a record of over 700 applicants. More information can be found at uschamber.com/dream-big-awards.
