Once again, The Garage will play host to one of the city’s most fun and philanthropic events. Each year, the Ben Walls Memorial Jam brings the community together to celebrate the life and memory of a beloved Mobilian as well as provide financial relief and support to someone battling cancer.
The first installment of the Ben Walls Memorial Jam focused on providing financial assistance to Walls during his battle with colon cancer. After he lost this battle, Walls’ wife, Noretta, and a group of his friends decided to continue the event. This year’s jam focuses on Jennifer Rogers, who is currently battling Stage 4 colon cancer.
Those attending the jam can look forward to a silent auction, crawfish and drink specials. However, the lineup of bands recruited for this event will be the most impressive aspect of the jam. Singer-songwriter Ryan Balthrop will bring his homegrown grooves to the jam. Harrison McInnis will add a dash of Azalea City blue-eyed soul. Phil & Foster is donating a set of eclectic Americana sounds. Country fans will be satisfied with live performances from Last Call Rodeo and Texas Truck. Day of the Iguana will use an unplugged set to provide a rocking blast from the Southeastern music scene’s past. Singer-songwriter Drew Nix of The Red Clay Strays fame will spend his afternoon at the jam. Fat Lip has a batch of ’90s’ alt. rock for the crowd. Fat Man Squeeze’s unique bluegrass is sure to be a hit. Stereo Dogs completes the lineup with a grand return to the stage.
