The third day of a major music festival such as Hangout Fest may find fans feeling weary, leading some to seek a more low-key haven before heading back to the crowds and the sun. Melissa Joiner’s bluesy set at Tacky Jack’s could provide a perfect away from the festival grounds to start to the day.
Joiner began her music career with formal opera training, lending to a sultry blues voice that is simply mesmerizing. As she developed musically, Joiner began crafting original songs influenced by her South Alabama upbringing and time spent as a student at Delta State University, in Mississippi blues territory. She later became a regular on the Gulf Coast music scene, playing various local venues. Joiner also has hosted the Gulf Coast Songwriters Shootout and performed at the annual Frank Brown International Songwriters’ Festival.
The most striking aspect of Joiner’s performance is her silken vocals, controlled with a precision learned after years of experience. Her mesmerizing vibe, along with Sunday brunch at Tacky Jack’s, should be perfect for music lovers getting their second wind before heading back through the festival gates.
