Since the turn of the millennium, technology has forced the music world into a state of evolution on a variety levels. Home studios and online distribution outlets have allowed musical artists to become their own bosses while avoiding the dreaded “industry standards” that once dictated every action taken by labels. Some might consider Josh Newcom the embodiment of modern DIY methods. Through his label, Warpaint Entertainment, Newcom has written, produced, tracked, mixed and mastered an impressive number of albums. To break industry standards even further, Warpaint Entertainment’s official site says Newcom released 10 albums in 2018 alone. All the while, Newcom exercises his personal right to tackle any genre that he pleases.
Newcom’s performance at Veet’s will include a vast wave of great original music featuring a variety of styles from his extensive catalog. His release “The Blues Gonna Getcha” includes rowdy juke-joint anthems and emotional Delta ballads. “Low End of the Bottom” features a collection of furious rock tracks that edge into the metal world. The classic country sounds of “Renegades, Outlaws & Gypsies” would feel at home in any honky-tonk. “Turns Out the Grass Is Blue” is a bright collection of bluegrass and folk. While he is truly an artist with a little something for everybody, Newcom’s songwriting mastery and open-minded approach to his sound is the most notable aspect of his music.
