The Baldwin County Judicial Commission has released the names of the seven nominees selected to replace retiring circuit court judge Robert E. Wilters.
Brian Dasinger, Michael Hoyt, Mary Murchison, Thomas Pilcher, William Scully Jr., Clark Stankoski and Scott Taylor are vying to fill the vacancy, which will become effective June 6.
The commission will accept public comments on the nominees until May 12. Comments may be submitted by letter addressed to J. Langford Floyd, Chairman, at 312 Courthouse Square, Bay Minette, Alabama 36507, or via email at email@example.com.
Upon the expiration of the public comment period, but within 30 days of the vacancy, the commission will select three nominees for submission to Gov. Robert Bentley. Bentley, within 30 days of receipt of the nomination, will select one nominee to fill the vacancy. If the Governor fails to make a selection within 30 days, the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court will make the appointment from the same list of nominees. The appointee will hold the office until the next general election.
Wilters served as the judge in the Baldwin County Circuit Court, Place 4, of the 28th Judicial Circuit since 1998. He announced his retirement April 15.
The appointee will hold the office until the next general election.
