Lagniappe co-publisher Rob Holbert continues to recover at a New Orleans hospital after sustaining injuries from a boating accident on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Holbert, who was fishing with friends on the back bay waters of Biloxi, was thrown off the boat when the captain lost control of the small vessel Holbert was a passenger on.

Holbert was initially taken to Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi but later airlifted to UMC New Orleans where he underwent emergency surgery and has remained ever since.

After being thrown from the boat, Holbert was hit by the prop and sustained a significant injury to his leg. He has undergone several surgeries and procedures to repair the damage, and his medical team is encouraged by his progress.

He is expected to be at UMC for at least a couple more weeks.

Holbert expressed his extreme gratitude for all the texts, calls, prayers and well wishes.

“Thank you all for the hundreds of prayers and expressions of goodwill. I know this is a pretty extreme way to find out how many friends I have in this world. I’m very lucky to be alive and all the positive thoughts mean so much. I’ll overcome this,” he said.
