Things are finally opening back up and I plan to spy on you all from a safe distance. Plus, the mask really helps me remain incognito. But before I can really get back at it, I do have a little gossip I collected while staying at home and “safering it at home,” as ordered.
I know, I know, it’s not much. But as so many COVID-19-related television ads have told me, we will get through this together.
So let’s get to it!
Let them eat (COVID-19-themed) cake
If you are like most people, you have been eating and drinking your way through this crisis/quarantine like the world is, in fact, about to end. I think the gyms, diet docs and rehab clinics are going to bounce back quickly.
But before we have to give up our vices, you may want to consider ordering yourself up a COVID-19-themed cake.
At least two local bakeries have provided much-needed levity to these terrible times by crafting delicious and topical cakes.
The first one that caught my eye was done by Sally’s Piece-a-Cake. While it was impossible to find toilet paper at the beginning of this crisis, Sally had you covered with the most delicious TP you will ever eat. That is guaranteed.
And for those who were fans of the “official” docuseries of the pandemic, Flour Girls Bakery has your “Tiger King” cake for you. Certainly the only time you would ever want to taste Joe Exotic!
Now we just need a hand sanitizer cake and one with a head wearing a surgical mask. Buttercream frosting please!
Nappie Awards Update
The powers-that-be asked me to provide a little update on the Nappie Awards. The nomination period began in the carefree pre-COVID-19 days and ended in early April.
The finals were set to begin on May 6, but obviously with so much uncertainty, we decided to delay them. With things starting to get somewhat back to normal — or at least to somewhat of a “new normal” — we can now announce they will begin on Wednesday, June 3, at noon and will end on Sunday, June 28, at midnight. You can vote once per day at votenappies.com.
Lagniappe digital subscribers have been able to get a sneak peek of the finalists this week on lagniappemobile.com. The full list will be on votenappies.com on May 25.
We are still hopeful we can have a ceremony at the Saenger in late July but it will be largely dependent on how things are going, and if we think we can pull this off while also keeping everyone safe. But the “coveted” Nappie banners will still be given out no matter what. We will keep you posted.
Well, kids, that’s all I have this week. Just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous or some plain ol’ Joe Exotic cream frostin’ lovin’, I will be there. Ciao!
