After seven years of silence, a popular downtown music venue thought long dead will once again open its doors to the public. Alabama Music Box showcased an eclectic, off-beat cavalcade of live entertainment to collect a dedicated group of patrons. Even though the location has changed from Dauphin to Conception Street, this venue’s musical philosophies are still intact. Alabama Music Box’s “grand reopening” will prove that this venue is picking up right where it left off.
The first night of Alabama Music Box’s return will be highlighted by Mobile band The Shunnarahs’ album-release party, with The Super Nice Brothers lending support. This local, psychedelic-garage punk outfit will be performing cuts from their new album, “Joke of Many Movements.” Local fans of this underground powerhouse have been given a taste of the new album with the recent release of its title track. Each dreamy, intoxicated measure is filled with classic ’60s garage goodness. However, those attending this show should also expect The Shunnarahs to expose their punk leanings to the fullest.
Night two of Alabama Music Box’s reopening will feature one of Mobile underground’s most beloved and iconic bands. Vomit Spots will take the stage for a furious blast of old-school local punk. This band’s iconic hits such as “Dude, I Didn’t Know,” “Beano,” “Talking to Al” and “Nina Haagen-Dazs” turn each Vomit Spots reunion into a raging sing-a-along. D.R.E.A.D., Son of a Gun, Empty Atlas and The Spoon Dogs will be lending support.
