Jim Pennington opened The Listening Room last month as an ideal atmosphere to experience music in a small venue where the performer and the crowd have an intimate bond, free from crowd noise or outside distractions.
The Listening Room is a 50-seat music venue with available beer, wine and soda, where shows begin at 8 p.m. and end at 9:15 p.m., are followed by an artist meet-and-greet, before concluding with an encore at 9:45. Pennington sees his venue — across the street from the Battle House Hotel — as an opportunity for locals to have the ultimate “listening room” experience in the Azalea City.
Julie Anne Sellers is a local performer who should shine in the venue. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, Sellers delivers lyrical snapshots drawn from life.
