The Mobile County Public School System confirmed today that Deborah Altman, principal of Lott Middle School in Citronelle, was placed on administrative leave last Thursday pending an investigation. MCPSS spokesperson Rena Phillips could not provide further detail, saying it was a personnel matter, but does not involve the safety or well being of students.
Altman has been an employee of MCPSS since August 1996. In Altman’s absence, Ashley Brewer is the school’s administrator in charge, with additional support from the central office, Phillips said.
Generally, public school employees placed on administrative leave continue to be paid pending the results of an investigation, Phillips said, and are statutorily permitted to appeal the outcome of resulting personnel decisions.
