Lauren Murphy has brought a dose of West Coast rock to the Gulf Coast. Before her relocation, Murphy earned respect in San Francisco through her work with the band Zero, which featured her late husband, Judge Murphy, Steve Kimock (Rhythm Devils, RatDog) and Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead). Murphy also served as the bandleader/composer for Lansdale Station. These days, Murphy is gathering a Mobile Bay following with her backing band The Psychedelics.
They have created a versatile local sound that blends smooth organic rock from the Golden State with a warm ribbon of Southern blues and soul.
Lauren Murphy & The Psychedelics have been capturing this sound at Dauphin Street Sound. With the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign, the public should soon get a debut album from this band.
Murphy will be bringing a little West Coast star power to her musical mix. Guitarist Mark Karan will be tripping across the fretboard throughout the night. When the remaining members of Grateful Dead formed The Other Ones, Karan lent his guitar. He is also known for his work with Bob Weir’s RatDog project. Karan’s time on stage is sure to add a little more magic to an already magical sound.
