A man has been taken into custody after a scuffle with Court Police in the atrium of Government Plaza Wednesday morning, city of Mobile Chief of Staff James Barber confirmed.
The man was in the process of being arrested for destroying a courtroom monitor when a scuffle broke out in the building’s atrium, Barber said.
Two officers tried to detain the man once he had broken free of their grasp and started screaming aggressively about his father. Multiple witnesses said the man was screaming “they broke my father’s neck,” referring to police.
An officer fell to the ground during the skirmish and either the man, an officer or both hit a wall hard enough to make an audible sound. Barber confirmed that one of the officers had injured his head on the wall.
The man was eventually tackled by a number of officers near an exit and was taken away by a member of Metro Jail staff.
