A Mobile man remains in jail for striking an officer in the face after causing a disturbance at Tillman’s Corner Walmart over Memorial Day weekend.

According to police, 26-year-old Jacob Teofilo was intoxicated when he arrived at the store on Rangeline Road in the late hours of Friday, May 27. After being asked to leave by a manager, Teofilo refused and police were dispatched to the scene.

As personnel from the Mobile Police Department arrived at the scene, Teofilo is said to have struck a female officer in the face while being taken into custody. Though the officer only sustained minor injuries, Teofilo has since been charged with second-degree assault.

According to Mobile County Metro Jail records, Teofilo has a laundry list of previous charges in the area that date back to his 18th birthday — including multiple charges related to theft and drug possession.
