Man dies after accident escalates to fatal shooting

Posted by Jason Johnson | Feb 5, 2020 | Latest, News | 0 |

Update:

Police have arrested 31-year-old Trenton Thornton on charges of discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle and murder. He was charged and booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail Wednesday night. An initial review of public records doesn’t show any previous arrests for Thornton in Mobile County.

Trenton Thornton, 31.

Original Story:

Police have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred Tuesday night after a vehicle accident in Mobile escalated to a deadly confrontation.

According to a statement from the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene of a reported shooting near the intersection of Gulf Field Drive and Central Drive in Maysville around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

There they found a man suffering from what proved to be a fatal gunshot wound. Police have since identified that victim as 35-year-old Patrick Edwards of Mobile.

Sgt. LaDerrick Dubose, an MPD spokesperson, said Edwards and his wife had been involved in a traffic accident earlier in the evening and Edwards had reportedly followed the suspect(s) in the other vehicle to the area of Gulf Field Drive after they left the scene of the accident.

DuBose said Patrick exited his vehicle to confront the suspect and was shot. After attempting to drive away, Edwards wrecked his vehicle on Central Drive and died as a result of his gunshot wound.

So far, police have not identified a suspect but the investigation is ongoing.
