SUBMITTED – The Mapp Family Foundation announced a one-to-one challenge grant through which it will match every dollar donated to the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation up to $100,000. Its trustees met with members of the advisory committee of the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation to discuss the effort designed to spur the growth of the community endowment fund.
“We believe in community foundations as they are local, and we are excited about supporting the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation,” said Louis Mapp.
The Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of South Alabama, was formed in January 2018 as a center of philanthropy to enhance the quality of life for generations to come. Individuals and organizations with charitable goals may establish a fund with the foundation and choose to designate how the funds are issued or allow the foundation to allocate them to charitable organizations through a competitive grantmaking cycle.
“We appreciate the Mapp Family Foundation stepping forward to encourage citizens to support this community foundation,” said Rebecca Byrne, President and CEO of The Community Foundation of South Alabama. “It will go far to build the resources to support future initiatives in the community.”
The advisory committee overseeing the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation consists of the following local residents: Ashley Bonner, chair; Mac Walcott, vice-chair; Maggie Lacey, secretary; Allison Ashurst, Beth Craft, Bill McNair, and Jeanna Pilot. The committee determines the areas of focus within the Fairhope/Point Clear community. Through a competitive grantmaking process, the Foundation supports local nonprofits which provide services needed in the community.
Individuals and organizations interested in making a donation toward the challenge grant or learning more about how to establish a fund with the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation may call 251-438-5591 or visit www.communityfoundationsa.org.
