When Birmingham-based St. Paul & and the Broken Bones first visited Mobile as a regional act, the audience recognized the charismatic band was destined for national or international greatness. Since, the group’s local reach has expanded from the intimate confines of Callaghan’s to play a main stage at Hangout Fest and in between, their reputation has grown well beyond Alabama and onto the worldwide scene.
While their modern soul sound alone is quite infectious, their live show completes their musical formula. Many local fans were upset when the cancellation of BayFest delayed their St. Paul fix. This full show will more than make up for the festival set they were planning for the BayFest crowd.
In addition to crowd favorites, the band will perform songs from their latest release, “Half the City.” The album’s title track is a testament that the band continues their magical old-school-soul sound. Paul Janeway’s tremendous vocal work shines, as the rest of the band proves numbers do not always matter when it comes to making a big sound.
