It was recently announced that Mary S. Zoghby is retiring as executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama, a position that she has held since 2002. A nationwide search is underway for a successor. From 1995 until becoming interim executive director in 2001, she was resource development director of the Boys & Girls Clubs and its affiliated organizations. As executive director, she has worked extensively with staff and members of the Board of Directors to establish innovative new programs to be offered in the clubs.Prior to joining the Boys & Girls Clubs organization, she served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1978 until 1994. As a member of the Legislature, she was chairman of the House Banking Committee and of the Mobile County Legislative Delegation.
Mrs. Zoghby’s involvement in the community resulted in her being chosen to be a participant in Leadership Mobile in 1978 and in Leadership Alabama in 1991-92. She was dean of Leadership Mobile in 1995-96. Among other honors, she was selected Mobile’s First Lady in 1986 and Mobilian of the Year in 1996. She has received the Liberty Bell Award from the Mobile Bar Association, the Plato Award from AHEPA, the “Herstory” Award from the Mobile Museum of Art, and the Community Achievement Award from Mobile Community Action.
Continuing to be active in the community, she is currently a member of the Advisory Board of AltaPointe Health Systems and of the Board of Directors of the Childrens’ Policy Council, Catholic Social Services, and the Catholic Foundation of the Mobile Archdiocese. She is a member of the Mobile Lions Club and serves on the Local Government Committee of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Board is planning a celebration to recognize her substantial contributions to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama.
