The Mobile County Health Department is ordering all bars and restuarants to stop allowing on-premise drinking and dining for one week, starting at 5 p.m. today, according to a statement.
The order from Health Officer Dr. Bert Eichold II comes as the state sees an increase of positive COVID-19 tests, with most in Jefferson County.
“In order to prevent what is happening in Birmingham, we are issuing these orders,” Eichold said in a statement, in reference to Jefferson County having almost two dozen positive test results. “We have no confirmed cases in Mobile County, so we want to make every effort to protect our residents. We want to work against this very aggressive virus from being established in our county.”
Establishments can still operate take out or delivery service, provided they maintain social distancing protocols, according to the statement. Establishments are encouraged to offer online ordering and curbside pickup.
All Nursing Home/Long Term Care Facilities shall prohibit visitation of all visitors and nonessential health care personnel, except for certain compassionate care situations such as end of life. All Senior Citizen Center gatherings shall be closed.
Senior centers and their partners are urged to assure that their clients continue to receive needed meals via curbside pick-up or delivery. Frequent hand washing and cleaning of countertops and other surfaces is advised.
“I apologize for any inconvenience this causes,” Eichold said in the statement. “This is a similar order to what was issued for Jefferson, Blount, St. Clair, Shelby, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties. Even though we have not had a case here, we need to do this to stay ahead of the virus.”
