The Grounds is bringing back its popular Helping Schools Fundraiser by partnering with the Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) to raise $100,000 for local schools over a two-week period.

The fundraiser will take place from Sept. 21 – Oct. 5, 2015. The initiative offers students the opportunity to sell tickets at discounted prices to the Greater Gulf State Fair while keeping a portion of the proceeds for their schools.

“Last year, this effort raised more than $30,000 for the Mobile County Public School System,” Scott Tindle, executive director for The Grounds, said. “This year we’re going big with a goal to raise $100,000 in two weeks. It’s ambitious, but we can do it.”

The partnership between The Grounds and MCPSS will allow each of the system’s schools to participate. As part of the fundraiser, students will sell Greater Gulf State Fair ride tickets that can be redeemed for an unlimited ride armband. The students will also be allowed to sell admission tickets to the Fair at advanced-ticket sales prices thus allowing their patrons to benefit from the reduced admission cost. Adult tickets will be sold at $8 (normal price of $10), and children tickets will be sold at $4 (normal price of $5).

Mike Milford, president of the board of directors of The Grounds, added, “As a local non-profit, our goal is to enhance our community and provide other non-profits and community organizations with support, both financially and otherwise. We’re excited about what this initiative can do for our school system.”
