The Melting Pot of Mobile has announced its latest promotion and fans of wine and fondue should get ready. Their Uncorked series began Sept. 20 and will continue through Nov. 15.

This celebration is a pairing of left coast wines (mostly California and a couple from Washington) with specific limited time menu items. Guests will have three different ways to experience this wine tasting adventure.

Simply put, the Wine Tasting Experience is a sampling of 1 ounce pours of seven different wines in the bar area with a “Partner in Wine” board of cheeses, fruit, nuts and chocolate. There is an option for an eighth pour for an additional fee.

The Four Course Pairing Experience is a bit deeper. Here the guests will be in the dining room with three core menu items and a fourth course of a new chocolate fondue. These are larger pours expertly paired with a different wine for each course.

The Mini Tasting Experience will be the guest’s choice of three of the seven wines in the regular tasting experience. This can be enjoyed with your meal in the dining room.

The newly reopened Melting Pot at 840 Montlimar Drive had such a successful pre-opening night that they managed to raise $2,000 for the Collins Marie Carr Memorial Garden at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. Expect more good things to come.

Taste of Mobile announces October date
The 39th annual Taste of Mobile will be held Tuesday Oct. 18 at the Mobile Marriott located at Airport and Bel Air boulevards. This seven-course meal hosted by the Mobile Restaurant Association will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and dinner will begin at 7 p.m.

Each course will be served with the appropriate beverage, and you can bet some of Mobile’s finest restaurants will be represented.

Tickets for the event are $100 per person or you can purchase a table of eight for $750. Proceeds are going to a scholarship fund for the Murphy High School Culinary program so that students may pursue higher education in the culinary arts.

Oyster cook-off around the corner
It’s never too early to discuss the Hangout Oyster Cook-off. This year’s version is starting to shape up. The bad news is we won’t get to enjoy it until Nov. 4-5.

Acclaimed chefs are already signing on. James Beard Award winners Mike Lata and Jason Stanhope are on board as well as James Beard Semi-finalist David Bancroft. Elliot Moss and Annie Petry are making splashes in the culinary world and of course Martie Duncan will be leading the charge.

Expect music by Jamell Richardson, Chase Bryant and Shelby Brown as well as a Tribute to David Bowie at the Craft Beer Festival. I’m already ready. More news to come.
