Mobile Makerspace premieres at Hive

Posted by Kevin Lee | Jun 11, 2014 | Art Gallery | 0 |

The science-minded folks at Mobile Makerspace have completed negotiations and moved into The Hive building at the corner of Warren and St. Francis in downtown Mobile. They’ll share the facility with Delta Bike Project and the artists’ collective the Rumor Union.

What this group offers to the Rumor Union are some left-brain solutions to right-brain ideas. Their tech experiments in robotics and various gizmos make a nice complement and will offer new avenues of artistic expression for a group that wants to push avant-garde forays in the Mobile area.

Head to The Hive for the June 13 Artwalk and check out their fancy-schmancy 3D printer, along with an interactive LED table. Meanwhile the Rumor Union will feature a green-screen photo booth that can insert attendees into roughly 20 classic works of art from various periods and styles. DJ sounds will be wafting from The Vault and another interactive project will invite participants to become involved over the course of the next month.

Look for more as the Rumor Union gets things buzzing during restructuring. A new shot of arts leadership can be just the shot of vitality we need during our typically slower summer season.
