Congratulations are in order for Mobile native Nick Brownlee. The 25-year-old bass-baritone was one of the five grand prize winners at the 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
In its March 22 conclusion at the fabled opera house in New York City, nine finalists from the initial field of more than 1,500 faced off. At stake was $15,000 for each winner.
Brownlee concluded his victorious run with a pair of arias. One was “Aleko Cavatina” from a Rachmaninoff work. The other was “Madamina” from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”
Now a Los Angeles performer, Brownlee boasts an undergrad degree from the University of South Alabama and a master’s in music from Rice University.
