‘Mojo’ heads up Mobile’s Cumulus cluster

Posted by Rob Holbert | May 11, 2022 | Media Frenzy | 0 |

Cumulus radio announced last week the appointment of Vincent “Mojo” Wilson to the position of operations manager for the Mobile area.

That puts him in charge of the five-station group made up of WBLX-FM, WDLT-FM, WABD-FM, WGOK-AM and WXQW-AM. Wilson will not only serve in that capacity, but also as program director for WABD and WXQW. And he’ll be on air at WABD weekdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Wilson has 26 years of experience in the radio business, and started his career in Tampa, Florida, working nights at 93.3 FLZ. His resume also includes an on-air hosting job at WMCG 105.1 in Detroit and director of operations for Southern Broadcasting in Florence/Muscle Shoals.

“‘Mojo’ is a talented programmer and on-air personality with a strong track record leading urban, [contemporary], gospel and news talk stations. He will be an excellent addition to our top-performing team in Mobile as operations manager of our five-station group,” Don Boyd, vice president/market manager of Cumulus Mobile, said.

Wilson also expressed his excitement about the new position in a statement.

“I’m extremely excited to join the Cumulus family and work alongside Don Boyd, Doug Hamand and the talented team in Mobile! Cumulus Media is a company that I’ve wanted to work for, and this is the perfect fit,” he said.

Lewis changes hands

An eight-person team of senior managers has come to an agreement to acquire Lewis advertising and marketing from its long-time owner, it was announced last week.

Ellen Praytor Faulkner, who was most recently senior vice president and managing director of the firm, will serve as the company’s new CEO, taking over for owner Larry Norris who was with the company for more than 40 years.

The new shareholder group will be made up of senior managers from all of Lewis’ three offices.

A press release announcing the leadership change stated, “As one of Lewis’ long-time managers, Faulkner has shaped the firm’s business and made a powerful impact on its culture. Her leadership style nurtures an environment that’s fun and rewarding.”

Faulkner has more than 32 yearsof experience with the firm, having started in account service and moved up the ranks to manage the Mobile office for more than 20 years. She is the firm’s fourth CEO and the first woman to serve in that capacity.

“I’m profoundly honored to be named CEO,” Faulkner said in a statement. “Collectively, these partners represent over 185 years at Lewis. We are a strong team and we are fully committed to expanding the legacy and success of our firm and clients.”

In addition to Faulkner, the new shareholders are Gary Brandon, Jake Fagan, Robert Froedge, Val Holman, Spencer Till, Ken Wilson and Carlton Wood.

Lewis is a marketing performance company specializing in proving and improving the financial impact of marketing on business performance.
