Spring Hill Oaks update
In an update, the nearly 50-year-old Spring Hill Oaks Condominiums currently undergoing $4 million in upgrades by Burton Property Group and located at 3655 Old Shell Road in Mobile, is expecting to roll out phase one of the completely renovated spaces for viewing and sale by early July of this year, according to Kym Trest with Roberts Brothers.
Originally designed as apartments in 1972 by Ladner Construction, all units at the site were converted into condominiums in 1982 by local real estate developer Billy Wells.
“Due to a recession in the 1990s, most of the owner-occupied properties foreclosed and were subsequently picked up by landlords,” Edmund Zoghby with Roberts Brothers said. “The complex went from 90 percent owner-occupied to 95 percent rental properties. That’s why there was such a significant decline in the upkeep and quality of the properties from the 1990s until now. These renovations are a game changer for that part of Spring Hill.”
He went on to say that a new fitness center and clubhouse will also be built at the center of the site upon final completion of buildout. More information about the project can be found at springhilloaks.com.
USA Health University Hospital named Comprehensive Stroke Center
The University of South Alabama’s (USA) Health University Hospital announced last week in a news release it has earned a Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from DNV GL Healthcare, reflecting the highest level of competence for treatment of serious stroke events.
University Hospital is the only certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in southwest Alabama and one of only three in the state.
“This designation is evidence that we consistently provide high-quality care to stroke patients,” Dr. Dean Naritoku, professor and chair of neurology with USA Health, said. “Because of this, we are able to give our patients the best chance for optimal outcomes.”
Lasting for three years, the certification still mandates an annual review of a designated medical center’s processes, documentation and outcomes to ensure its continued compliance with certification standards and nationally identified guidelines.
“Because of the round-the-clock neurological expertise and the neurointerventional and neurocritical care provided here, University Hospital handles the most complex stroke cases,” said Dr. Steve Cordina, interventional neurologist and stroke program medical director with USA Health.
The DNV GL Healthcare Comprehensive Stroke Center certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association and affirms that the medical center addresses the full spectrum of stroke care — diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education — and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.
“We identify stroke patients quickly and begin appropriate treatment immediately because for patients, time is brain. Strokes don’t have a particular time when they happen,” Dr. Rebecca Sugg, associate professor of neurology with USA Health, said. “The best treatment results are found at centers such as ours where the care team is ready to provide definitive care at any time of the day.”
DNV GL Healthcare is a national stroke certification organization. More information about the accreditation can be found at dnvglhealthcare.com.
