Mobile Police Department The Mobile Police Department is currently taking applications for its next Citizens’ Academy, which will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. from March 10 through May 19, 2015.

The classes, which are taught by police officials with expertise in the given areas of instruction, are offered free of charge and are intended to help give citizens an insight into daily police work.

All aspects of police work are covered, including patrol functions, tactical operations, narcotics, youth crimes, officer training, community policing and crime scene investigation.

Participants also have the option, on a voluntary basis, to ride with a patrol officer and visit several law enforcement facilities, including Mobile County Metro Jail and Communications. In addition, participants have the opportunity to handle firearms at the MPD Pistol Range.

A graduation ceremony is planned for May 19 as well. The deadline for applications is February 6, 2015. While there is no cost, seating is limited.
