Midnight Rodeo has become the Azalea City’s source for some of the hottest up-and-coming modern country acts on the road. Bruce Smelley will be lending local support.
Smelley took home the 2017 Nappie Award for “Best Country Performer/Band.” When Lagniappe last spoke with him, Smelley was making plans to release an EP of original material, some of which his Midnight Rodeo crowd might get to sample.
Wisconsin’s Josh Thompson will headline. Driven by muses ranging from George Jones to Lefty Frizzell, Thompson picked up the guitar in his early 20s and let the music flow. He will pull his Midnight Rodeo setlist from his three-album catalog.
Thompson uses his old-school-meets-new-school style, mingling twang with pop. This diverse sound allows him to deliver poignant country ballads and pop country hits with equal success.
