The Amphitheater at The Wharf may be taking a break for the cold weather months, but they are already making plans for a stellar 2014 concert season. Tickets are on sale now for Jason Aldean on March 15. This young country superstar will be on tour in support of his latest album “Night Train.” Aldean will be joined by Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr.
Just because the live music has stopped for the winter months does not mean the public can’t have a musical experience at The Wharf. Their Spectra light spectacular is taking on a holiday theme through Christmas. This “immersive experience” will take place nightly at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the streets of The Wharf.
Kimbrough set to release eighth solo effort
With all the work he has been doing with Willie Sugarcapps, it is hard to believe Will Kimbrough has had time to work on his solo material. However, this “Sherlock Holmes of songwriting” has done it again with his latest effort “Sideshow Love. In this, his eighth studio album, Kimbrough takes the listener through various stages of love, using his exceptional talent of weaving tales through his music.
“A good album really should be like a volume of short stories,” Kimbrough said in a recent press release. “It should have a beginning and an end, and what happens in between is up for grabs, as long as it fits the theme. The idea of this album is that everybody wants somebody to love and somebody to love them, and what you get when you find that is a lot of responsibility. If it’s going to succeed, you’ve got to work it out over the long haul.”
The creation of this album began with the track “Home Economics.” Inspired by a friend’s divorce, Kimbrough felt an album brewing with this one song. He then began to sort through “50 or 60” songs he had written over the past few years for a collection that would stand firm on this foundation. “Dance Like Grownups Dance” is the only sample that has been released so far off of “Sideshow Love.” This lighthearted bounce infused with slide guitar portrays a rare affection felt only between true loves. “Sideshow Love” will be out Feb. 18. Could there be a local Mardi Gras show from Kimbrough to follow?
