The Baldwin County Judicial Commission is seeking nominations to replace retiring judge Robert E. Wilters in the Baldwin County Circuit Court, Place 4, of the 28th Judicial Circuit.

Any duly qualified attorney desiring who would like to pursue the nomination must submit a completed nomination questionnaire to the office of the Honorable J. Langford Floyd at 312 Courthouse Square, Bay Minette, Alabama 36507, before 3 p.m. on April 28.

Wilters, who had served in the position since 1998, announced his retirement on April 15. The vacancy will be effective June 6 and will be filled in accord with Act 2006-280 and the rules of the Baldwin County Judicial Commission, according to a press release from Floyd.

Copies of the Nomination Questionnaire are available on the Court website, the Baldwin County Bar website or in hard copy at the Baldwin County Law Library in Bay Minette.

All information provided will be confidential to the Commission and will not be publicly disclosed.

A complete list of all Nominees will be published at 4 p.m. on April 28. Upon publication of the Nominees, the public will have until May 12 to submit comments and any other information regarding any nominee for consideration by the Commission.

Upon the expiration of the public comment period, but within 30 days of the vacancy, the Commission will select three nominees for submission to Gov. Robert Bentley. Bentley, within 30 days of receipt of the nomination, will select one nominee to fill the vacancy. If the Governor fails to make a selection within 30 days, the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court will make the appointment from the same list of nominees. The appointee will hold the office until the next general election.
