U.S. District Court Judge Callie Granade, who on Friday effectively overturned Alabama’s ban on gay marriage, today ordered a 14-day stay on the judgment, passing further action to Atlanta’s 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. In an order that again acknowledges Attorney General Luther Strange’s lack of a sufficient legal argument, Granade also determined the stay would not sufficiently harm the public interest.
If no action is taken by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals to extend or lift the stay within that time period, the court’s stay will be lifted on Feb. 9.
