A Mobile Police Department officer has resigned, amidst an investigation into the wreck of his city-owned vehicle, Chief James Barber announced Tuesday afternoon.
Officer Michael Phelps, who was most recently assigned to Precinct 2, was involved in a Sept. 27 crash at the intersection of Airport and University boulevards, which resulted in no injuries.
Phelps, a 16-year veteran of the force, was tested for drugs and alcohol at the scene, per MPD protocol and his drug test came back positive, according to a MPD statement issued Tuesday. Internal Affairs has launched an investigation, according to the statement.
