Even though the Gulf Coast’s subtropical climate has been overpowering winter, cold weather is destined to return. Flora-Bama regulars are hoping the warm weather will not spoil this beach-side roadhouse’s annual Polar Bear Dip. For many years, “Polar Bears” have gathered on the beach in front of Flora-Bama to take a dip in what is usually a cold Gulf of Mexico. Afterwards, participants and newcomers to Flora-Bama alike party with some of the area’s best music.
Local country singer/songwriter Zachary Thomas Diedrich will be a good reason for Polar Bears to party into the night. Even though Baldwin County is known for its beaches, Northern Baldwin County is a rural area filled with wilderness fed by the delta. This is the Baldwin County in which Diedrich creates his music. Pulling inspiration from the classic country scene, Diedrich’s music embodies the outlaw way of life. This artist has been a welcome addition to the area’s country scene, and his set should be the perfect end to this year’s Polar Dip.
