If you’ve got a youngster longing to march to the beat of his own drums, this might be just the ticket. One of the Gulf Coast’s most noted drummers, John Milham, will host a camp throughout July in two locations, Fairhope and Laurel, Miss.
Milham said campers will “play rhythmic games that build their sense of ‘inner’ rhythm.” He’ll also teach them how to use instruments to make sounds of water, wind, rain, thunder, crickets, leaves, trees blowing, and other natural sounds.
Campers will learn different world rhythms and to play different parts together as an ensemble. A concert will also be performed for the parents at the end of the week.
The Fairhope camp will take place July 14-18 at the Eastern Shore Arts Center (401 Oak St.). There will be two sessions daily, 10 a.m – noon and 1-3 p.m. To enroll, call 251-928-2228, ext. 107.
The Laurel camp takes place July 22-25 at the Lauren Rogers Art Museum (565 N. 5th Ave.). There will be one daily session, 2-5 p.m. To enroll, call 601-649-6374.
Cost is $75 per student. As class sizes are limited, reservations will only be held with payment.
