The Mobile County Personnel Board announced Tuesday that it will uphold the termination of former Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Capt. Stephen Schmidt.Schmidt was terminated on July 24, after a pre-disciplinary hearing found that on at least one occasion he had engaged in sexual activity with a female guest, while on duty at the fire station, MFRD spokesman Steve Huffman wrote in a statement.
Schmidt appealed the termination the day after and the Personnel Board held a hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
“We applaud the efforts of the Personnel Board during this process as this type behavior will not be tolerated within the ranks of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department,” Executive Director of Public Safety Rich Landolt said in the statement.
