The 20th anniversary of BayFest Oct. 3-5 will bring several national artists from the past back to the Azalea City. Local BayFest veterans are no exception. Phunk Blue Moon is a band quite familiar with BayFest, and they will be returning to perform on the Launching Pad Stage Fri., Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. With their mix of funk and live-instrument hip-hip, this group has developed a reputation for getting the BayFest crowd on their feet.
“I would like to think of our shows as a way for everyone involved to blow off steam, shake off reality for a bit, and remember how much fun it is to bang your head,” explained front man PhilePhil.
Phunk Blue Moon has definitely had heads banging across the city, courtesy of their self-titled debut. For its latest release, Phunk Blue Moon went into the studio with dreams of creating a party album. They succeeded with an album filled with adrenaline. Currently, the band is in the midst of preparing for a new album that will bring DJ Kovic into the world of Phunk Blue Moon. According to PhilePhil, fans should expect this release to have totally different attitude than the first.
“We are working on new material with more complex arrangements,” said PhilePhil. We want songs with more meaningful messages. We’re not knocking our party hard attitude, but we just to change up the mix a bit.”
After completion of the album, Phunk Blue Moon will perform as much as possible in support of their upcoming release. They are also going to try to score spots at major festivals and book major venues in an effort to spread their music as far as possible.
