Police arrest students connected to potential threats on school campuses

Posted by Lagniappe | Feb 23, 2018 | Latest | 0 |

SUBMITTED – According to a news release, the Mobile Police Department received numerous reports of potential threats at multiple high schools in the city today and yesterday evening. Officers have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of everyone at these campuses, and have made two arrests.

On Friday, a 14-year-old female student was arrested for disorderly conduct for her role in perpetuating fear on social media in regards to threats at Davidson High School. Additionally, a 16-year-old male student was arrested for making a terrorist threat for a social media post that resulted in Williamson High School going into lockdown. Later Friday, MPD announced another student had been arrested connected to making a terrorist threat. On Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to B.C. Rain High School. Officers were able to identify and locate the 15-year-old male student responsible for making a fake Facebook page and sending the terrorist threat. The student was arrested and taken to Strickland Youth Center.

The Mobile Police Department will continue to investigate all potential threats and ensure safety in local schools. For anyone who sees or hears of potential threats, it is of most importance that you report the threat to the proper authorities, either school administration and or the police.

Please do not perpetuate rumors on social media. Allow the Mobile Police Department to follow up on any potential threats without the spread of fear from these rumors. Any real threat will be acted upon to the fullest extent of the law. Those found to be starting false threats will also be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and could be held liable for the cost of investigating those complaints.
