On Thursday, Mobile Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Duval Street after receiving reports that a female had been shot in the area.
The incident was reported in the early hours of the morning — around 7:45 a.m., shortly before police arrived on the scene and found 29-year-old Latreash Leggett suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Mobile Fire and Rescue personnel responded along with police but were unable to stabilize Leggett. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In less than a day, police nailed down a suspect, and on Friday, police said their investigation revealed Leggett’s boyfriend, 38-year-old Anthony Wilson, to the be the suspected shooter.
Police believe he shot Leggett and then left the scene.
Law enforcement officials throughout the county were notified to be searching for Wilson, and it didn’t take long until a SWAT team apprehended him on I-65. He was interviewed and subsequently charged with murder.
Despite the arrest, police are still searching for a motive behind the killing and ask that anyone with information call Mobile Police at 251-208-7211 or CrimeStoppers of Southwest Alabama at 251-208-7000.
