The father of a 7-year-old killed from an accidental gunshot to the head was arrested Wednesday evening after going after a person he felt was responsible for the incident, according to Mobile Police.
Kenneth Sims, the 35-year-old father of J’Duan Hill, was charged with second-degree assault after causing minor injury to two adults in a residence on Wealthy Street and one adult in the street, police said.
Mobile Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, but no one was transported. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Mobile Police reported that the child found the gun inside a home on Wealthy Street about 9:30 Wednesday morning and was handling it when it accidentally discharged, causing the fatal injury. Charges haven’t been filed in the shooting.
Updated at 4:57 p.m. to list Sims as J’Duan Hill’s father, at the request of his mother.
