Portal Studios moved from Dauphin Street to just north of Auto Alley at St. Louis and Lawrence and the location near a spot like the Buick Building which slated for hi-tech purposes is looking more prime. Should his neighbor Innova continue to expand, they can only help things.
A recent announcement of an appearance at Portal by avant-garde percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani brings opportunity to mind. On near-continual tour, Nakatani has appeared at West Mobile’s Satori Coffee House for several years.
Losing the Rumor Union’s presence at the Hive only narrows the field of downtown venues for acts such as this. Will Portal build upon the role it has played to date? Is there even a sufficient niche for such acts here?
Portal’s owners have mentioned increasing out-of-town film work so we’ll have to see what transpires.
