Band: St. Patrick’s Day at The Fort
Date: Saturday, March 13 at 9 p.m.
Venue: The Fort Container Yard, 29001 Bass Pro Drive (Spanish Fort), theforkpark.com
The Fort Container Yard has used innovations in recycling to create one of the area’s most unique and fun entertainment destinations. Nestled in the heart of Spanish Fort, The Fort has transformed a number of shipping containers into a source of delicious food and cold libations in an open-air setting. For those who are still wary of COVID but want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, The Fort should allow for plenty of celebrating and social distancing. The revelers will also have a bit of luck with a performance from Mobile’s Sloth Racer.
Sloth Racer combines the talents of Franklin Pratt (guitar/vocals), Reed Gilmore (guitar), Zach Nelson (bass) and Jared Messinger (drums). For the past couple of years, Sloth Racer has been using its eclectic rock to gather listeners. The band’s studio introduction to the public came in the form of a five-song debut EP, “I’m Okay.” This handful of tracks represents a trademark sound that is a fun, mellow mix of rock and reggae.
Those unfamiliar with the band might find them in the same vein as 311 minus the hip-hop and crunchy guitars. This has made them an attractive standout while adding more diversity to the local scene. With two singles released over the past year, Sloth Racer is proving their musical legacy is far from over. Both “In Time” and “She & I” are infectious tracks filled with shiny pops across the strings that are matched by meandering bass runs and hypnotic rhythms. With summer drawing near, Sloth Racer are providing locals a perfect soundtrack for the beach.
