Officials at St. Pius X Catholic School are dealing with two sets of disturbing reports — that children are being bullied and that their pastor was accused of child sexual abuse. Now, the school’s lawyers claim the allegations have “opened up a can of worms” and are “destroying” the school.
Well, if kids say they’re being bullied and if an accused priest is still on the job, then this “can of worms” does, in fact, need to be opened.
And we suspect the notion of the school being “destroyed” is hyperbole. But if any harm’s being done, it’s being done by those who are hurting kids and keeping secrets, not by those who are trying to expose and deter more wrongdoing.
