Band: Spearman Brewers
Date: Saturday, July 20 at 6 p.m.
Venue: Tacky Jack’s, 240 E. 24th Ave. (Gulf Shores), tackyjacks.com
For years, Tacky Jack’s has remained a source of seafood and family-oriented fun on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Panhandle blues act Spearman Brewers will be spending Saturday evening entertaining at Tacky Jack’s Gulf Shores location with its retro trademark sound. With D. Scott Riggs on a variety of guitars and Jeremy Holcombe playing everything from an upright bass to a crosscut saw, this glorious duo pulls muses from the early days of jazz and blues.
Last summer, Spearman Brewers visited the acoustic-friendly confines of the Knoxville-based radio station WDVX for a “Blue Plate Special” performance. The tracks of that session were captured on their first live album, “Live on the Blue Plate Special.” This collection provides a great rendition of the duo’s live show. Riggs’ bright guitarwork and Holcombe’s rhythmic bumps provide a perfect foundation for harmonic vocal work that melds the past with the present. Even when this band is playing the blues, Spearman Brewers keeps spirits high and feet tapping.
