SUBMITTED — The Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Long will be the featured speaker for the Dill Lecture Series at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in Mobile on Sunday, Sept. 26. He was named “one of the twelve most effective preachers in the English-speaking world” according to a 1996 survey by Baylor University, along with the likes of Billy Graham and Barbara Brown Taylor, and was one of only three individuals to be honored again in its next survey in 2018.Dr. Long will preach at the 10:30 a.m. worship service and give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. His sermon will be based on the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. In the afternoon lecture he will speak on “The Love of God and the Tragedy of Suffering: What Can We Believe?” He will share insights into what we can believe and trust in times of suffering and crisis, such as the world is currently experiencing. These events are offered free of charge and are open to the entire community. Attendees are asked to wear a mask while in the building.

Evil, Suffering, and the Crisis of Faith, The Witness of Preaching, and Preaching from Memory to Hope (delivered at the distinguished Lyman Beecher Lectures in Preaching at Yale Divinity School).
The Dill Lecture Series was established in 2013 by Dauphin Way United Methodist Church Foundation to honor Dr. Stephen Dill and his wife Ruth for their forty years of service to the church and to the community. The Lecture Series brings to Mobile esteemed speakers to offer their insights and inspiration to the Dauphin Way congregation and to the community at large.
