Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard of Fairhope is hosting a Grand Reopening July 12-13 at their 420 Eastern Shore Shopping Center location. The business has now come under the ownership of Nick Hartley of Hartley Frozen Treats.
The Friday and Saturday event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, $1 and $2 specials on frozen treats and what every Italian ice and frozen custard store needs: square dancing! Apparently Hartley is also a professional square-dance caller. I’ve secretly wanted to learn for years.
Normal business hours are noon to 10 p.m. If you don’t make it to their brick and mortar, be on the lookout for their food truck.
Tiffy B’s Eatery to close July 26
It’s a “last call” for Tiffy B’s Eatery. The 4366 Old Shell Road location (former Chattaway Café next to Rouses) is calling it quits with the final day being Friday, July 26. The place with the giant menu specializes in sandwiches and comfort food with gumbo and chicken and dumplings readily available. If you have a gift certificate, be sure to redeem it soon.
Expect several specials between now and the final date. For example, on Saturdays Tiffy B’s is offering a BOGO special. Buy one, get one free of equal or lesser value (entrées excluded, dine in only, one offering per ticket) and the purchase of two drinks. I smell double dessert.
Tiffy B herself is entertaining the idea of a smaller facility in the area as a future gig. Until then, expect to see her pop up as a server or bartender somewhere in the neighborhood.
Manci’s offers new brunch and lunch menus
It’s been around for a while, and now Manci’s Antique Club of Daphne (1715 Main St.) is revamping its lunch and Sunday brunch menus. What would you say to an Irish Cuban? There would be a lot to talk about with corned beef, pulled pork, Creole mustard, fried Wickles and Swiss cheese. Sign me up. Shrimp or chicken tacos (prepared grilled or blackened) get the spicy aioli treatment with tomato relish, Arcadian lettuce and cheddar cheese. There is also a locally sourced chicken salad sandwich on marbled rye as well as loaded tater tots and a summer salad.
Sundays will find Manci’s customers full of chicken and waffles, wild-caught Gulf shrimp and grits, French toast and a brunch burger topped with bacon, hash browns and a fried egg. The new menus are already in effect so get them while they’re hot.
Also get ready for Manci’s Antique Club’s 83rd Birthday Bash! You read that correctly. Details have not been finalized, but put it on your calendar for Saturday, August 24. Expect live music from some of its regular stellar rotation.
